  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Using modified von Wittern's type two dimensional ballistocardiograph, the respiratory variation of the IJ segment of 46 normal males over 40 years of age was studied.

The direction of the IJ vector on the frontal plane had a tendency to incline to the right with advancing of age.

In the group of 40~50 years of age, the respiratory variation of the longitudinal IJ amplitude is affected little by the respiratory change in the IJ direction on the frontal plane, but is chiefly affect ed by the change in IJ amplitude, so-called respiratory variation of the ballistic force.

On the other hand, in the group of over 60 years of age, the respiratory change in longitudinal IJamplitude has a possibility to be affected much by the respiratory change in the IJ direction on the frontal plane.

However, even if we admitt the above possibility, the respiratory variation of the IJ amplitude on the frontal plane still increases with advancing of age.
