1. Using a modified von Wittern's 2-dimensional ballistocardiograph, the systolic amplitudes of lon- gitudinal and lateral ballistocardiograms were observed in relation to the aging and the elevation of blood pressure level in 182 cases admitted for physical check up.

2. The mean values in normal young subjects are presented.

3. The ratio of maximal lateral amplitudeM (max. lat. ampM) to longitudinal IJM (long. IJM) have a tendency to increase with the aging and the elevation of blood pressure level. This tendency is due to the reduction of long. IJM, which is considered to be attributable to the shift of cardiac ejection axis by the trotuosity of the aorta.

4. Respiratory variation of max. lat. amp. in lateral B.C.G. is not eminent and there is no definte tendency in the ratio of expiratory amplitude to inspiratory amplitude. There are no definite relationship between this respiratory variation and the aging or the elevation of blood pressure level.

5. Like long. IJM, the calculated systolic maximal amplitude in frontal plane tends to decrease with the aging and the elevation of blood pressure level. This tendency is due to the fact that the max. lat. ampM does not increase so much with the aging and the elevation of blood pressu- re level, in comparison with the decrease in the long. IJM.

6. The relationship between long. IJM and max. lat. amp. M was discussed.
