  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Fasting levels of lipids (total lipid, total fatty acid, total cholesterol and total phospholipid) in the serum of blood taken from the right and left ventricles of rabbits, dogs or cats were measured quantitatively employing a new method.

Levels of these substances were furthermore determined in the similar manner on dogs administe-red orally with butter and intravenously with homogenized fat (Fatgen) to cause lipeniia.

Results revealed no significant quantitative differences in the levels of lipids in the blood of the circulation, before and after passing the lungs in any of the animals placed on oral administration of butter and on intravenous Fatgen administration.

Thus it was learned that the quantitative assay of lipids and their differences in the blood flow-ing into and out of the lungs is not appropriate to investigate the action of the lungs to deposit fat
