Abstract Acute zonal occult outer retinopathy(AZOOR), discovered by Gas et al. in 1993, is a disease that predominantly affects the myopic eyes of young women, causing rapid vision loss and visual field defects. (1(2 AZOOR is a disease concept that causes unexplained damage to the outer retina, with Mariotte blind spot enlargement and central visual field defects on visual field testing, decreased amplitude of multilocus ERGs consistent with visual field abnormalities, and loss of the ellipsoid zone(EZ) and interdigitation zone(IZ) on OCT.

In the past, a multifocal ERG was required for a definitive diagnosis of AZOOR, and the diagnosis could only be made in a limited number of centers. Recently, however, it has become possible to detect structural abnormalities in the outer retina using OCT, and the disease can now be diagnosed in general hospitals. However, when the retinal morphology is abnormal due to other retinal diseases, the diagnosis of AZOOR by OCT becomes difficult.

On the other hand, the Amsler chart is currently the most widely used screening method for retinal discoloration and paracentral dark spots.

In this report, we describe a case of AZOOR with preretinal membrane diagnosed by Amsler chart.
