Abstract. Purpose:To report changes in visual acuity, foveal thickness, and macular volume following vitreous surgery for epiretinal membrane. Cases and Method:This study was made on 36 eyes of 36 patients who received 23 G vitreous surgery for idiopathic epiretinal membrane. The age ranged from 57 to 81 years, average 69 years. Inner limiting membrane was peeled in 14 eyes using triamcinolone. Foveal thickness was measured by optical coherence tomography. Cases were followed up for 6 months. Results:Visual acuity improved with reduced foveal thickness and macular volume one and three months after surgery. The findings remained the same up to 6 months. Visual acuity improved more in cases with reduced foveal thickness or macular volume. Final visual acuity was poorer in patients of advanced age. Conclusion:Vitreous surgery for epiretinal membrane results in improved visual acuity, decreased foveal thickness and reduced macular volume up to 3 postoperative months.
