本調査は，人工内耳にかかわる言語聴覚士の業務の実情を明らかにし，言語聴覚士が果たすべき役割を再考することを目的とした．調査対象は，人工内耳手術病院・リハビリ施設137か所で，うち79か所からの回答をもとに，病院等の環境整備とリハビリテーションの視点から分析した．①すべての人工内耳メーカーの手術が可能な病院は1/3に過ぎなかった．地方では特定のメーカーの手術のみなど，患者へのサービスが地域によって大きく異なっていた．②言語聴覚士が人工内耳だけにかかわっている病院は4％にすぎず，他は言語聴覚一般の業務の一部として人工内耳にかかわっており，業務の分業化がなされていない．③リハビリテーションプログラムを有している病院・施設は19％にすぎず，リハビリテーションが専門化されていない．④重複障害児への人工内耳の適用が進みつつある(22.4％)が，種々の問題も抱えている．⑤教育や福祉との連携が何よりも求められる．
The purpose of this investigation is to assess the current situation of speech-language-hearing therapists (SLHTs) treating patients with cochlear implants (CI) in hospitals. Questionnaires returned from 79 hospitals were analyzed. The results were as follows:1) Only 1/3 of the hospitals conduct surgery for CIs of all available manufacturers. There are regional differences in the types of CIs that are available. 2) Most of the SLHTs who took part in the survey do not work exclusively with patients with CIs. CI patients constitute only a part of their caseload. 3) CI rehabilitation programs are provided in only 19% of the hospitals and are not specialized. 4) The percentage of deaf children with additional disabilities receiving CI is currently at 22.4% but is on the increase. 5) Collaboration among medical, educational, and welfare personnel is important.
