　I．緒言

　耳鼻科医の日常診療において，頸部の腫瘤に遭遇する機会は少なくない。先天性頸部嚢胞の1つである正中頸部嚢胞もその1つである。本報告では昭和47年4月より昭和55年5月までの8年間に東北大学耳鼻咽喉科に入院し加療された正中頸部嚢胞12例をまとめたので，報告する。

　In the last 8 years, 11 cases of thyroglossal cysts and one case of thyroglossal fistula were treated in the department of otolaryngology, Tohoku university hospital.

　Patients under 10 years of age shared 50%. Sexdistribution was even. The size ranged from thumb-size to tennis ball-size. The location was most frequently between the hyoid bone and thyroid cartilage (83%). The shape was cuboidal or ovoid. Sixty-six per cent of the cysts were accompanied with tracts which extended towards the foramen caecum. The treatment consisted solely of operative removal of the cysts. The removal of the midportion of the hyoid bone was performed in 7 cases at the first operation, while in other 5 cases the hyoid bone was left intact.
