　I．緒言

　扁桃（主に口蓋扁桃の意）が全身性疾患を惹起し得ることはHippokrates以来知られているが，Stoll（1785），Rush（1818），Black（1842），Curshmann（1890），Pässler ＆ Hunter（1910）らを経て，これを「病巣感染」focal infectionとして初めてとらえたのはBilling（1912）である^1）。その後Gutzeit u. Parade（1939）^2）の体系化により，病巣感染の定義ならびに概念は確立された。

　本論文ではこのような関連下における掌蹠膿疱症pustulosis palmaris et plantaris（以下pppと略）をとりあげ，とくに最近注目されるようになつた扁桃摘出術（以下扁摘と略）によるpppの治験を中心に，その他pppの一般的な問題ならびに発生機序について文献を考察し，自験例をあわせ紹介してご参考に供したい。

　From the review of literatures concerning pustulosis palmaris et plantaris (ppp) and tonsillectomy from the point of view of tonsillar focal infection, we arrived at the conclusion that those tonsils affected with ppp should be removed, particularly, when conservative treatments are ineffective or when they may be effective but yet, easily exacerbated.

　Although the pathogenesis of ppp is still not quite clearly known, yet, the removal of the proved foci is quite an appropriate method to be considered.
