Ⅰ．緒言
細分化の進む臨床医学領域において，頭頸部腫瘍に対しては，耳鼻咽喉科，外科，口腔外科，放射線科のそれぞれが独自ではなく，共同でその治療に対処しようというのが，今日の趨勢である2）。そしてこれまでの地道な研究，臨床経験にもとづく各種治療法の評価がなされてきた。
われわれは大阪大学医学部耳鼻咽喉科に特別に頸部腫瘍外来をもち，喉頭癌，下咽頭癌をはじめキする多くの頸部疾患に対して積極的に取組み治療に専念してきた3）4）5）。その成果ともいうべく，頸部外科手術数が10数年前に比べて着実に増加してきた。また，一般外科で取扱われることの多い甲状腺腫瘍，頸部腫瘤に対しても積極的に治療にあたつてきた3）。そこで，1968年から1972年の5年間の本教室における頸部外科手術の臨床統計をまとめたので報告する。
A statistical report of the number of patients with cervical tumor seen at the ENT Departmenl of the Osaka University Medical School during the period of recent 5 years, 1967 to 1972,is made. The number patients that required operative treatment came to 698 cases, the number when compared to the records taken 10 years previously was a definite increase.
The affections were categorically classified as laryngeal cancer, 397 cases, 56.9%; subglottic cancer, 117 cases, 16.8%; thyroid tumors, 52 cases, 7.4%; parotid gland tumors, 29 cases, 4.2 % and 35 other cases of so-called cervical tumor, 5%.
The authors emphasized that there is a definite characteristic by which to make a diagnosis of thyroid tumor and parotid gland tumor, while most of the so-called cervical tumors were composed of metastatic cancerous growths in the cervical lymph glands.
