　Ⅰ．緒言

　近年，抗生剤，化学療法剤などの長足の進歩によつて種々の感染症に対する治療は格段の進歩を遂げたが，その反面，ある種の抗生物質すなわちストレプトマイシン，カナマイシン，ネオマイシンなどの持つ聴器毒性の存在は，耳科学的に大きな問題となつてきた。われわれは，最近pseudomonas aeruginosaやproteusなどのグラム陰性菌に対して大きな効果があるといわれている広域スペクトルを有するアミノグリコシド系抗生物質の硫酸ゲンタマイシン（ゲンタシン）を使用して難聴となり，進行して聾に至つた症例に遭遇したので文献的考察を加えてここに報告する。

　A case of deafness due to administration of gentamicin is reported.

　A 39 years old man, who had been suffering from chronic renal failure, was given 40 mg of gentamicin intramuscularly twice a day for the period of 5 days the total dosage of 400 mg. After 2 days of the drug administration the patient became aware of a hearing difficulty which gradually increased to become total deafness in both ears.

　The authors conclude that gentamicin hearing loss was resembled the acute deafness due to kanamycin administration in treatment of severe renal failure.

　The literature in similar subjects are reviewed.
