  • Look Inside

A 29 year-old-female with bilateral hearing loss following lumbar anesthesia with Dibucaine hydrochloride "heavy" in 0.3% solution for the arthropie examination of internal derangement of the knee joint is presented.

The hearing impairment after lumbar anesthesia was characterized as to bilateral, disturbance in low frequency range, transient, reversible in short time, and perceptive deafness. It is our suspicion that cause of the hearing impairment might be due to decrease of fluid pressure in the subarachnoid space from leakage of lumbar puncture hole. The aqueduct of the cochlea is thought to be the transmitter of decrease fluid pressure to the perilymph of the labyrinth.

It was thought that epidural autologous blood patch is an effective therapeutic method for auditory complications after lumbar anesthesia.
