　Ⅰ．まえがき

　昭和38年9月，第15回日本気管食道科学会の円卓討議「喉頭癌」において，岡山大学医学部耳鼻咽喉科教室における過去約30年間，31例の喉頭癌に対する喉頭部分切除の成績を報告した。本小論はその時の講演内容を敷術し，又，喉頭截開術なる手術名に対する批判を試みたものである。

There were 31 cases of laryngeal cancer in whom cordectomy or ventriculo-cordectomy was performed by laryngofissure at the Oto-laryngological Department of the Okayama Medical School during the period of 30 years from 1931 to 1962. Twenty five of these cases lived more than 5 years after the operation and the cancer was regarded as cured in 19 of this number, 76%.

The term laryngofissure has been applied to any variety of operative procedure which involves opening of the larynx but its spe-cific objective has differed with different cases. The authors suggest that instead of a general term laryngofissure the operative procedure on the larynx should be named precisely in accordance to what may be per-formed on the part or the parts of the larynx.
