　Ⅰ．緒言

　慢性副鼻腔炎の罹病傾向として近年その疫学的研究によつて，本症は非衛生的な環境に多発するとされ，われわれも日常の診療にあたりかなりその事実を経験的に感じているのであるが，一方慢性副鼻腔炎の病態は多種多様で，その発症原因も複雑である。この間の事情を検討するために，国立名古屋病院に入院し手術を行つた患者のうち308名（内男子195名，女子113名）を無作為的に抽出し，その手術時における上顎洞粘膜の肉眼的所見と年齢，職業，住所などとの相互関係を調査してみた。さらにその内の142名については洞粘膜を病理組織学的にも検索し次の結果を得たので報告する。

Three hundred eight cases of chronic sinu-sitis who were operated at the Otolaryngolo-gical Department of Nagoya National Hospital were made the subject of investigation. The following results are obtained:

The majority of patients were in the age group between 16 and 20; predominently those who were employed in muscular labor; and those who lived in the factory district. From the standpoint of the pathology of the sinus mucous membrane edematous type predomina-ted among those whose standard of living was lower there were more occurences of hypertrophic and infiltrated types.
