　緒言

　茎状突起の解剖学的な異常に基因して屡々咽頭痛，咽頭異物感，放散性耳痛，其の他の愁訴を見ることがあるが比較的稀なものとされている。その報告は1884年Rethi，を以つて嚆失とし，Richardson，Bacher，Schenke，Eicken等を始め幾多の報告が相次いで現われた。本邦に於ては田中，笠井の両氏が1921年に2例を報告したのが始めで，その後，岡田氏は特にアイケン氏病と云う名称を附してその1例を報告し，次いで山本教授，加藤，今井，蒲島，牟田氏等の報告を見，更に近年，福島，田中，中尾，鈴木氏等が報告している。

　吾々も最近，手術に依つて異常な茎状突起を除去しその苦痛を全く消散させる事が出来た。本症症例の1例を経験したので茲に報告し諸家の例に追加し度いと思う。

　A case of abnormal elongation of the styloid process that produced disturbances is reported. A woman, aged 57, complained of having a peculiar sensation in the throat and tongue with tinnitus and at times pain in the ear for a considerable period of time. Probing her throat with her fingers the patient stated that she noted a hard point which felt like a bone. X-ray examination confirmed the diagnosis of abnormal elongation of the styloid process. The tip of this bone was removed surgically and the patient recovered without event.
