　緒言

　原因不明の咽頭障害を訴える患者に，茎状突起の解剖学的異常に由来するものゝあることは，本邦ではあまり知られていない。この疾患は欧米ではverlängerter Griffelfortsatz，elongated styloid processなどと呼ばれ，既に19世紀末より諸家により報告されているが，本邦では1921年田中・笠井による最初の報告以来，未だ30数例の症例が挙げられるに過ぎない。また本邦教科書においても独り1951年後藤光治著書^文）に「長茎状突起症」として記載されるのみである。

　私どもは最近本症の5例に遭遇し，しかも過去における報告例とは，いささか異なる自覚症のあるのに気付いたので，これを報告し諸家の参考に供したいと思う。

　Muta and Numata report 5 cases of elongated styloid process that caused a common complaint among these patients of that of auditory tube obstruction. In three patients the styloid process shortened by operation which brought a complete relief to subjective symptoms. Various points in the diagnosis of this condition are discussed. The authors maintain that, with vague pharyngeal complaints in which the cause may be underterminable. it would be important that the condition of the styloid process be given a due consideration.
