  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

From acustico-physiological standpoint Onchi attempts to summarise on the literature, by such authors as, Muller, Black and Dunn, Ballantine, Rayleigh; Troeger, Stenberg and Snow, Langen-beck, Bekesy, Meyer, E. Barany and, Fujita, that deals with the question of acustical behavior of the head and the pinna when exposed to a sound field. According to this survay, the ratio of reflected to diffracted sound waves, which affects the head, increases in a direct proportion with the attainment of higher frequencies, i. e., the effectiveness of the pressure increment of sound that are due to refelection begins to be-greater at approximately 300 cycles to attain its maximum value when 2,000 cycle mark is reach-ed for a constancy.

According to Bekesy and, E. Barany, it seems likely that the function of the pinna, in its cel-lection of sound waves, may stop beyond 3,000 cycles. However, in the author's opinion, as the details of acustic reaction of the pinna, in a given sound field, are yet to be measured, the subject requires further investigation.

The author concludes that, the affect of the increased sound pressure on the head is one factor among others, the source wherby, discre-pancy may find its way between values obtained by the two methods, though each is measured in minimal threshold unit, that of Wien (source of sound detached from the ear) on one hand and, the American (with a reciever attached to the head) on the other.
