はじめに

　解剖学会では国際的な細胞・組織学的用語が未定であったが，ニューロン（neuronum）という言葉を国際用語委員会^1）で採用され，神経細胞（neurocytus）と同意義に用いられることになった。

　それでは，脊髄運動ニューロン（motoneuron）とはどれを指すのであろうか？　一般には脊髄前角（または前柱）に存在する大型の多角形polygonalの細胞体をもつニューロンで，その軸索の終末が横紋筋で終板を形成するものということができ，生理系でいうα細胞である。しかしながら，遠心性を運動性と定義すればα細胞より小型のγ細胞もあり，また，側角にある自律系の細胞もこの範囲に入ることになるので一応これらは除外して論じたいと思う。

From the general aspects on the morphology of the motoneurons in the spinal cord, which got the ideas in order from the observations of serial sections staind by Klüver-Barrera method and of quantitative morphometrical results obtained from the photomontages of electron microgram, fol-lowing conclusions were brought.

1) It remains a lot of unknown facts to be solved in future, though the subject seems so simple in the central nervous system that no need to study more.
