A) In our previous autoradiographic study with tritiated thymidine in the chick embryo (1972), it was suggested that the chick spinal cord has the same laminar cell organization as that of the cat spinal cord which was revealed by Rexed (1952), and that those neurons which differentiate in an earlier stage of development are larger in cell size. In this report, spinal neurons were counted in the adult cat and fowl, in order to examine in which part of the spinal gray matter and in which cell size group the spinal neurons increase in number with the evo-lution of vertebrates.
