　緒言

　高齢化社会の到来とともに，今後耳鼻咽喉科領域においても生理的な老化現象への対応の増加が予想される。そのため，厚生省長寿科学総合研究“高齢者の聴覚障害に関する研究班”（以下，高齢者聴覚研究班と略）は，こうした状況への対応の一歩として，高齢者の聴力の実態調査をおこなった^1）。その結果，高齢者が聴力の低下とともに，耳鳴による「きこえにくさ」を訴えることが少なくないことが明らかとなった。そこで，今回私どもは前述の実態調査をもとに老人性難聴と耳鳴との関係について検討し，生理的な聴力閾値の上昇が耳鳴に及ぼす影響について考察をくわえた。

We investigated the clinical features of 1,192 cases of presbycusis, and as a result, 389 cases (33%), 200males and 189 females, were aware of tinnitus. There was no difference in incidence between males and females. With aging, the rate of awareness of tinnitus was not increased, but the cases of bilateral tinnitus increased. It was therefore suspected that patients with unilateral tinnitus readily progress to having bilateral tinnitus. In accordance, we consider that some general factors might be involved in the development of tinnitus in cases of presbycusis.
