　緒言

　甲状腺悪性腫瘍のなかで，扁平上皮癌は非常に稀な疾患とされており，その頻度は0.4％とされている。今回われわれは嗄声を主訴として当科を受診し，手術の結果，甲状腺原発扁平上皮癌と判明した1症例を経験したので，若干の文献的考察を加えここに報告する。

A 65-year-old male with primary squamous cell carcinoma of the thyroid gland underwent chemo-therapy and irradiation after surgical operation. There was no recurrence and metastasis at the time of this report.

It is well known that this malignancy is very rare and the incidence is about 0.4% of all thyoid carcinoma but prognosis is poor. Most of thepatients are elderly and presented with sudden onset. The progress of the disease is aggressive and the tumor is unresectable at the time of diagnosis. Radiation and chemotherapy are in-effective. It seems reasonable that the early diag-nosis, complete surgical excision and postoperative radio-and chemotherpy offer the best opportunity for cure.
