　1980年から1991年9月までの11年9か月の間に，京大病院眼科黄斑外来にて観察されていた特発性黄斑円孔の患者11例12眼に対し，黄斑円孔周囲のhaloの全周およびその一部に対しダイレーザー光凝固を施行し、その後の視力変化を経過観察した。施行後8〜15か月経過観察したが，この間に2段階以上の視力改善を示したのは1眼，悪化1眼，変化なしが10眼であった。視力改善率は8.3％であり，レーザー光凝固は進行した黄斑円孔での視力改善に対し有効な治療方法とは考えられなかった。

We reviewed the results of idiopathic macular hole in 12 eyes, 11 patients, after treatment by dye laser photocoagulation. As standard patterns, laser photocoagulation was applied either around the rim of the hole or around the rim of the hole exceptingthe nasal quadrant. After followup of 8 to 15 months, the visual acuity improved by 2 lines in 1 eye, deteriorated by 2 lines or more in 1 and remained stationary in 10. The rate of improvement was thus 8%. The present results indicate that dye laser photocoagulation does not induce improve-ment of visual acuity in idiopathic macular hole.
