A 66-year-old woman presented with impaired vision in her left eye since 10 days before. Her corrected visual acuity was 1.2 right and 0.1 left. Her left eye showed macular hole compatible with stage Ⅱ after Gass. Her left eye was treated by phacoemulsification-aspiration,intraocular lens implantation, and vitreous surgery with adjunctive use of triamcinolone acetonide. The internal limiting membrane was left intact. A particle of triamcinolone was detected posterior to the macula during surgery. It persisted after efforts for removal. One week after surgery, triamcinolone could be observed posterior to the macula by funduscopy and optical coherence tomography(OCT). It gradually disappeared to become non-detectable 3 months after surgery. The visual acuity improved to 0.9 5 months after surgery. She has been doing well regarding intra-ocular pressure, fundus findings and visual acuity for one year's follow-up until present. This case illustrates that submacular deposition of small amount of triamcinolone may be tolerated by the eye with no harmful consequences.
