　手術的に摘出した加齢性黄斑変性4例4眼の脈絡膜新生血管膜を組織学的に検索した。網膜色素上皮細胞の同定には抗パンサイトケラチン抗体，血管内皮増殖因子（VEGF）の同定には抗VEGF抗体，マクロファージの同定には抗CD68抗体を用いた。パンサイトケラチン染色とVEGFの発現は，新生血管膜の辺縁，新生血管の周囲，間質で陽性であった。CD68の染色は新生血管膜の辺縁と間質で陽性であった。以上の所見から，網膜色素上皮細胞からのVEGF分泌が本症での新生血管形成に関与することと，脈絡膜新生血管膜の形成過程に炎症反応が関与することが推定された。

We made immunohistological studies on surgically excised choroidal neovascular membrane in 4 eyes of 4 patients with age-related macular degeneration (AMD) . We used anti-pancytokeratin to identify retinal pigment epithelial cells (RPE), anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) to identify VEGF and anti-CD68 to identify macrophages. Staining for pancytokeratin and immunoreactivity for VEGF were positive in the periphery of neovascular membrane, perivascular cells and stromal cells. Staining for CD68 was positive in the periphery of neovascular membrane and stromal cells. The findings seemed to show that VEGF secreted from the RPE induces neovascularization in AMD and that inflammatory reactions are involved in the formation of choroidal neovascular membrane.
