　患者にとって，より痛みの少ない麻酔法を見出すため，visual analogue scale （VAS）を用いて白内障術中の痛みについて検討した。（1）球後麻酔＋瞬目麻酔，（2）テノン嚢麻酔，（3）点眼麻酔の3群間において白内障術中の痛みに差を認めなかった。麻酔方法の選択は，痛み以外の要因を基準とし，行ってよいと考えた。

With a view to establish a less painful method of anesthesia, we evaluated the pain during cataract surgery in 30 eyes using a visual analogue scale. We used either of the three methods for anesthe-sia: topical instillation, subtenon anesthesia, and retrobulbar anesthesia with akinesia. There were no significant differences among the three methods employed. The findings show that the method of anesthesia be chosen for reasons other than intraoperative pain.
