Purpose:To review the outcome of surgical removal of choroidal neovascularization in 17 eyes in 17 patients. Cases:Surgery was performed on 9 eyes of high myopia and 8 eyes of age-related macular degeneration(AMD). Changes in visual acuity(VA)by 2 lines or more by logMAR unit were judged as significant. Results:In 9 eyes of high myopia, postoperative VA improved in 5 eyes, remained unchanged in 3,and deteriorated in 1. In 8 AMD eyes,it improved in 4 eyes, remained in 1,and deteriorated in 3. Final VA was 0.5 or over in 2 high myopic eyes and in 1 AMD eye. As postoperative complication, macular hole developed in one eye and recurred In 3 eyes. Conclusion:Preoperative VA of 0.1 or over was necessary to achieve postoperative VA of 0.5. Postoperative VA was poorer than the preoperative value when the initial VA was 0.3 or over.
