We used high-viscosity hyaluronate at the con-centration of 1.4% as adjunct to penetrating ker-atoplasty in 13 cases. It was possible to release posterior synechia when injected under pressure. Only four preplaced sutures were enough to main-tain the anterior chamber during suturing of the graft. The postoperative intraocular pressure aver-Reprint requests to: Ikuko Toda MD Depart-ment of Ophthalmology Tokyo Dental College, 5 -11-13 Sugano Ichikawa Chiba, 272 JAPANaged 12.3+6.9 mmHg at day 1 and 11.3+5.1 at day 2 with oral acetazolamide. The endothelial cells 7 months after surgery averaged 2063.6±307. 5/mm2 with the mean cell loss rate of 18.3±14.5%. These findings show the effectiveness and safety of high-viscosity hyaluronate as adjunct to penetrat-ing keratoplasty.
