ペニシリン（以下PC）の経口投与が従来あまり用いられなかつたのは，PCが酸に対して非常に不安定で，経口投与すると胃内で破壊されるため大量を必要としたのによるが，このため主として小児科領域で胃酸酸度の低い幼児に一時用いられていたに過ぎなかつた。しかしPCの大量生産が順調になつてから，PC療法の大半は注射療法が占めるようになり，径口投与は殆ど顧りみられなかつつたといつてよい。しかるに我国ではたまたまPCの副作用が過大に報道された結果，注射よりも重症な副作用の少い経口投与が検討されてきた。こゝに登場したのが，酸に対して安定で経口投与に適しているPCVである。
PCVは米国では1955年より，我国ではそれより一年遅れて市販されたのであるが，PCVは既に947年Behrens等により合成されており決して新しいPC剤ではない。
The purpose of the present study is to determine whether or not this drug can penetrate into the chambers of the eye of man and rabbit.
In humans the drug given in doses of 1000,000 units of penicillin V could be detected in the aqueous at 0.021u/ml., and when given in doses of 1600,000 units the concentration demonstrated was 0.124u/ml. one hour after administration.
Administration of 400,000 units of penicillin V showed penetration of 0.072 to 0.145 u/ml. in the aqueous of rabbit eyes.
Intramuscular penicillin G yielded higher aqueous levels than oral penicillin V.
