緒言

　核酸の研究は1871年F，Miescherが膿球よりNucleinなる物質を分離したのに始まり今世紀に入りFeulgenにNucleinに特有な呈色反応所謂Feulgen反応を発見しCaspersonは紫外線吸収試験を，Brachetは核酸の塩基好性を利用しMethylgreen-Pyronine染色法を考案した。我が国に於ても浜崎教授はこれら欧米に於ける研究とは全く別個に核酸の分解産物であるケト・エノール物質について数多くの卓抜した業績を発表している。

　その結果，核酸が細胞内新陳代謝の中枢とでも名付くべき重要な機能を有して居りその種々の機構も除々に明らかとなり生物学・医学界の注目を浴びてその研究は長足の進歩をなしつつある。

Methods : Brachet's methylgreen-pyronine staining

Feulgen's nuclein staining

Thionine staining

Materials : 48 human fetal eyes and 4 adult eyes

Findings :

1) Cells in the proliferating layer adjacent to the outer limiting membrane are very abundunt in R.N.A. and some of them are undergoing mitosis and strongly stained with methylgreen. The decrease of R.N.A. in this layer in embryos of 4 months shows the reduction of the activity of these cells.

2) The retina in the early stage consists of a primitive neuroblastic layer which takes methylgreen strongly and a marginal zone which takes pyronine faintly.
