緒言

　先天性硝子体嚢腫は1898年にThompsonが初めて記載したが，以後報告例は少なく，まれな疾患とされている。しかし本症はほとんどが視機能に大して影響せず自覚症状が少ないので，見逃されたり，受診しないままで終る場合がかなりあると想像される。私は昭和46年から5年たらずの間に4例の本症に遭遇し，これが一般に考えられている程まれな疾患ではないと思う。

　本症の成因に関して，従来毛様体由来説^1,2）と硝子体管由来説^3〜8）の二つがあるが，私の経験した4例はいずれも毛様体由来であろうと考えている。

Four cases of congenital vitreous cyst were observed during the past 5 years. All were young subjects between 6 and 17 years of age. The vitreous cysts were detected by chance as there were no relevant complaints. It seemed that the condition is not quite so rare as has been supposed. Their presence is probably easily overlooked as they neither affect visual function nor cause any subjective symptoms.

The eyes were essentially normal except the vitreous cyst and refractive errors. The cysts were located close to or near the posterior surface of the lens.
