緒言

　Retinoschisisは網膜（Retino）披裂（Schisis）とでも直訳されようが，実際には網膜が視細胞層と視神経線維層との間で層状に二葉に分離する（Splitting,Aufspaltung）状態をいい^1），これを本報告では網膜分離症と呼ぶことにする。

　本症は網膜が色素上皮と視細胞との間で接触を失う網膜剥離とは，病理，臨床所見あるいは治療方針において本質的に異なる疾患であるが，その眼底所見が網膜剥離のそれときわめて類似するので，過去および現在において網膜分離症と思われる多くの症例が網膜剥離として報告されてきたし^2）〜6），また日常診療中にも剥離と誤診されて紹介されてくる網膜分離症の患者はあとをたたない。

Retinoschisis is a splitting of the neural layerof the retina. From the study of 696 eyes with acquired retinoschisis, clinical characteristic, differential diagnosis were described. Of 245 eyes with acquired retinoschisis followed from one month to 15 years, 33 eyes (13.5%) showed progression in retinoschisis. Retinal detachment was observed in 16% of the eyes with outer-layer breaks alone and in 77% of the eyes with beraks in both layers. No detachment was found in eyes carrying inner-layer break alone.
