緒言
白内障は眼科特有の疾患で，原因がどのようなものであれ原則として治療は手術であり，術後処置はコンタクトレンズまたは眼鏡を使うこと以外には対策がない。
この手術方法，術式，予後，合併症の対策については顕微鏡手術，ERG，レーザー光応用の検査等で大きく進歩し，白内障患者が入院して医療機関で受ける治療水準ははなはだ向上したが，その反面，退院後の視機能回復についての考慮は不完全，不十分で，医師も患者もあまり関心を払つていない。
A retrospective survey was conducted on 919 subjects operated for cataract at the Osaka RedCross Hospital during the foregoing 7 years. Only 100 patients were contact lenses and the remaining majority used spectacles for the cor-rection of aphakia.
To provide the best results in the rehabilita-tion of aphakia and in regaining binocular func-tion, the following recommendations are made by the present author.
1. Patients with cataract are to be operated on at an early stage and preferably for both eyes.
