This is a preliminary report on a new type of cataract surgery which I have developed. Conventional surgery requires a 19 mm (180°) curved incision, and therefore a long period of recuperation and convalescence, following a stay in the hospital of about a week.
With the technique I shall describe, hospitali-zation is unnecessary, and full activity can be resumed the first day after surgery, since the incision is only 2 mm. or less. The inspiration is derived from the age old dream of dissolving cataracts, but in this case the hard senile cata-ract is emulsified and aspirated.
