緒　言

　Phaco-emulsifier aspiratorによる白内障手術について1977年われわれ^1）はその手術手技の概略と30例35眼の白内障手術について術中，術後の合併症とその予後，核乳化に必要なultrasound timeの限界について発表し，更に同年本術式のstan-dard methodとneglect method^2）についても検討し，更に1977年馬嶋^3）は有核白内障における本術式の手術手技について報告した。その後更に手術例を加え6カ月から約1.5年の術後観察例が102例128眼に達したので，このうち30歳以上の症例で有核白内障と考えられた100眼に対し検討を試みると同時に本手術の適応を選択するに必要な事項について考察し，二，三の知見を得たので報告したい。

We evaluated the surgical technique and out-come of phaco-emulsification in 100 eyes with nuclear cataract in subjects of over 30 years of age. About one-half of the cases had posterior subcapsular cataract and were considered to be ideal candidates of the method. We have set a tentative maximal duration for application of ultrasound at 2 minutes. Complications during and after surgery did not significantly influence the final visual acuity. The final corrected visual acuity of 0.8 or more was a botained in 75% of the operated cases. Further, 90% of the operated eyes attained a vision of 0.5 or more.
