I．緒言
昭和39年に，大学病院眼科外来を受診した患者中の糖尿病者を対象としたもので，アンケートに御協力頂けた37大学眼科教室の解答を纒めたものである。
A report is presented concerning the inci-dence of diabetic retinopathy based on a na-tionwide survey throughout Japan. Patients who consulted eye departments of 37 univer-sity hospitals in Japan during 1964 served as material for the study. Chief findings were as follows :
Number of patients with diabetes mellitus : 4, 875 (3,071 males & 1,804 females).
Patients with diabetic retinopathy : 1, 606 (8 80 males & 726 females)
Patients with severe diabetic retinopathy : 558 (272 males & 286 females)
Incidence of retinopathy among diabetic sub-jects : 33.9% (29.4% for males & 41.4% for females).
