まえがき

　先天代謝障害であるガーゴイリズムおよび家族性黒内障性白痴で，視床は強く侵されるが，視床諸核の病変の強さは一様ではない。著者の1人小笠原（1967）^8）はかつて，この両疾患においてNucl．dorsomedialis,Nucl．lateralisが著しい病変を示すのに，Centrum medianumの病変は極めて軽度であることを報告した。

　他方，小田（1972）^9）によると，オリーブ核・小脳萎縮症などの変性疾患においては，視床病変の中でCentru—m medianumのそれが強調されるという。

An attempt was made to evaluate histochemically the activity of dehydrogenases in the thalamic nuclei of the cat brain, since the human centrum medianum is least affected of all the thalamic nuclei in gargoylism and amaurotic idiocy.

The centrum medianum produced the lowest activity of SDH, DPNH-Diaphorase, TPNH-Dia-phorase, LDH, IDH, MDH, GDH and G-6-p DH, of all thalamic nuclei.

These findings suggest that the centrum medi-anum seems to differ in metabolic functions from another thalamic nuclei.

From this animal study, it can be surmised that the human centrum medianum plays characteristic role concerning enzymatic functions in metabolic diseases such as gargovlisnl and amaurotic idiocy.
