　無血静止術野の得られる完全循環遮断法は，体外循環法の飛躍的な進歩のみられる今日でも，複雑多岐な術式を要する乳児期複合心奇形や，大人でも大動脈瘤破裂など，手術の補助手段として魅力的な方法である。しかし循環遮断の体温と遮断許容時間との関係等，循環遮断に関する諸問題については経験的な要素が多く，客観性に乏しいのが現況である。この最大の要因は循環遮断時における臓器代謝を客観的に評価する方法の難しさにあると考えられる^1）。

　我々は，循環遮断時の代謝を定量的に研究する一方法として遮断解除後に生じる一時的な動静脈血間のA-VO₂ Differenceの増加に注目し，これより計算される0₂ Debt^2）の大きさを臨床症例で測定するとともに，雑種犬で実験をしてきた。

We measured arterial and venous blood oxygen content of 5 clinical cases and 4 dogs before and after circulation arrest under low body temperature. The size of O₂ debt calculated from these measurement ranged wide but one relationship that the size of O₂ debt was equal to or smaller than the size of O₂ deficit was observed. The size of O₂ debt was almost equal to the size of O₂ deficit when arrest was short and the size of O₂ debt was smaller than the size of O₂ deficit when arrest was long.
