　明らかな基礎疾患を有しない，いわゆる特発性心筋・心外膜炎^1）は，大部分がウィルスが原因とされている。その臨床像については以前より論じられているが^1〜9），心エコー図に関する報告は未だ見当らない。

　著者らは，最近5年間に急性特発性心筋・心外膜炎16症例を経験した。それら16例の臨床像と心エコー図所見について検討し，本症の診断学的問題点についても考察を加えた。

The clinical pictures and echocardiograms of sixteen patients with acute idiopathic myo-pericarditis were presented. The clinical courses were generally well in fifteen of the cases. The remaining case presented cardiogenic shock and complex arrhythmias on admission, who was successfully treated with intraaortic balloon pumping (IABP) with pacemaker insertion. Two cases developed constrictive pericarditis. The IABP should be effective in cardiogenic shock in patients with acute idiopathic myopericarditis.

The serological examination for viruses was performed in nine cases using complement fixation (C. F.) test. Three cases showed significant rises in C. F. titers. Its rise for Coxsackie viruses was observed in only one case.
