気管支喘息の成因については諸説があり，まだ十分に解明されていないが，現在では，アレルギー説，β受容体遮断説などが重要視されている。気管支喘息が異なった病因，病態を有ずる症候群である以上，その治療法も当然多岐多様であろう。気管支喘息の治療法としては，減感作療法，体質改善療法，転地療法，薬物療法などがあり，薬物療法としてはβ受容体刺激剤，メチルキサンチン製剤，ステロイドホルモン，disodium cromogly—cate製剤α受容体遮断剤1）などが繁用されている。
副腎皮質刺激ホルモンadrenocorticotropic hormone（ACTH）も従来，一部の臨床家により使用されてきた。以前市販されていたブタまたはウシの脳下垂体から抽出された製剤は力価も低く，異種蛋白の混入が避けられないため，喘息患者に注射を続行中に重篤なアナフィラキシィショックを招来することがあり，次第に使用されなくなった。現在では合成ACTH製剤が使用され，このような副作用発現の頻度も低下したため，気管支喘息治療薬として再び使用しうるようになった。
The effect of ACTH on the actions of various bronchoactive agents and on cyclic nucleotide contents in guinea pig lung and tracheal tissues was examined.
Male guinea pigs, weighing 250-300g, were used. Guinea pig tracheal strips were removed, suspended in bioassay glass jackets and superfused with Krebs-Henseleit solution at 37℃ saturated with oxygen and carbon dioxide (95 : 5, v/v). Contraction and relaxation of guinea pig tracheal strips were detected by an isotonic transducer and displayed on a polyrecorder. The cyclic nu-cleotide content of guinea pig lung and tracheal tissues were determined by radioimmunoassay method.
