ケア倫理の普遍化可能性

Possibility of universification of care ethics

　普遍的原理やルールに依拠しないケア倫理は個別的・関係論的要素を倫理的考慮に入れることができる一方で、普遍性がなく、道徳理論として致命的な欠陥を負っているという批判がある。こうした批判は、一面においてノディングスの誤読に由来するとともに、また他面において、彼女の狭いケア倫理理解に由来している。本稿では、ケア倫理に対する様々な誤解を明らかにするとともに、ケア倫理は、原理に依拠したリベラルな正義倫理、文化伝統に依拠したコミュニタリアンの徳倫理のいずれの限界をも超えることのできる普遍化可能性を持っていることを論じる。

　Although care ethics, which are not based upon universal principles and rules, can take individual and relational factors into ethical considerations, some criticize that these ethics have a fatal defect as a moral theory because they are not universifiable. Such a view is derived partly from misreadings of Noddings' works and partly from her narrow understandings of care ethics. In this paper, several misunderstandings of these ethics will be clarified, and it will be asserted that care ethics have universality which can surpass the limitations both of principle-based liberal justice ethics and of cultural tradition-based communitarian virtue ethics.
