Summary : We investigated the transference of the weight of individuals as measured through on hip, hand and through feet in a position of trunk lateral leaning while sitting on a bench. The angles of lateral leaning were set at 12, 18, 24. and 30 degrees. Two groups of subjects, twenty healthy young adults and twelve healthy elderly individuals, paticipated in this study and a comparison was made. The measurement was carried out with and without one hand supporting the part of the body weight while leaning to that side. Therefore, subdivision of the measurements consisted of body weight on the supporting hip, foot, and hand. The body weight support rate(BWSR) was computed from the body weight on each supporting base as a percentage of the total body weight. In hand—support position, BWSR of both group on the hip decreased, and on the hand it increased as the leaning angle become greater. However, BWSR on the feet showed no change at any angle. In the non — hand — support position, BWSR of both groups on the feet decreased, and on the hip it increased as the leaning angle become greater. In this position, ten of the elderly group were unable to maintain their sidewards leaning posture at 14 and 24 degrees. None of the subjects in both groups could maintain the 30 — degree leaning posture without supporting their with their weight hand.
