[Purpose] To analyze the risk factors of vaginal cuff infection following laparoscopic or transabdominal hysterectomy. [Material and methods] From 2011 to 2013, we retrospectively analyzed 247 cases of laparoscopic hysterectomy(TLH) and 191 of transabdominal hysterectomy(TAH) for benign disorders. The association between vaginal cuff infection and age, BMI, operative time, blood loss, weight of specimen, operative procedure, the presence of endometriosis and cul-de-sac obliteration(CCDSO) was evaluated. [Results] From univariate analysis, vaginal cuff infection was associated with age(p=0.01), CCDSO(p=0.02) and endometrioma(p=0.02). From multivariate analysis, age(p=0.02) and CCDSO(p=0.04) were detected as risk factors of vaginal cuff infection following hysterectomies. [Conclusion] Age and CCDSO are the risk factors of vaginal cuff infection following hysterectomies.
