What is an academic intensivist?

academic intensivistとは，いわゆるアカデミアと呼ばれる大学や公的機関に所属する集中治療医を指すものと考えられる。しかし，単に「臨床研究を行う集中治療医」を指すものではなく，真のacademic intensivistとは，科学的な思考過程を十分に理解できるトレーニングを積んで，集中治療医療領域における研究と教育活動を行うことができる人間である，と定義したい。すなわち，基礎研究あるいは臨床研究を問わず，アカデミアにおける真に科学的な研究活動を実際に体験し，その手法を理解することがacademic intensivistには必要不可欠である。

An academic intensivist may be considered to be an intensive care physician working at a university or public institution, but it does not simply refer to “an intensive care physician conducting clinical research”. What is a true academic intensivist? I suggest that an academic intensivist conducts research and educational activities in the field of intensive care medicine based on a true scientific thinking process. It is essential for academic intensivists to have experience in scientific research and understand the strategy of scientific research activities in academia, regardless of whether they are conducting basic or clinical research.
