Publishing scientific papers, obtaining research funding, and conducting clinical research are important activities to become an intensivist with an academic perspective. However, “peer review,” conducted by a third party from a neutral standpoint, needs to be added to these activities. Peer reviewers evaluate an inestigator's application from a critical point of view, and their suggestions are not always easy for the investigator to implement. To avoid fatal recommendations in the peer review process, it is preferable to carefully describe the scientific novelty, social importance, feasibility, and ethical justification of a proposed project. In summary, one must highlight what is different from past research. Whether the project can contribute to society, whether it can be done by oneself, and whether it respects the rights of patients., should be carefully described in the application.
