7．研究指導とメンターシップとは—導く者と導かれる者，それぞれのコツとポイント

医学をはじめとする科学の発展は，研究指導者が次世代の研究者を育てることで達成されてきた。天賦の才能だけで研究者が育つことはまれであり，一流の研究者が育つ背景には，多くの場合，その才能を伸ばしてくれた良き指導者の存在がある。指導者に求められることは，研究技術の伝達だけではなく，研究に対する動機づけ，実際に研究を進めるにあたっての実務的な援助，そして最終的には独立した研究者として巣立っていくための考え方を培う手助けが求められる。近年では，さまざまな角度からの助言を生かすため，メンターシップを活用することも増えている。本稿ではメンターシップ制度も含めて，いくつかの事例や個人的な経験を紹介する。

Research supervision and mentorship are key to further develop medical science and nurture clinician scientists. In addition to the transfer of research techniques, supervisors are required to motivate researchers, provide practical assistance in conducting research, and ultimately help them to become independent investigators. In recent years, mentorships have been increasingly utilized to take advantage of advice from different angles. This review aims to describe some examples and personal experiences regarding research supervision and mentorship.
