メタロ-β-ラクタマーゼ(MBL)はGram陰性菌が産生するカルバペネマーゼの一種で，Amblerの分類ではクラスBに属するβ-ラクタマーゼである．クラスBに属するMBLは，主に緑膿菌をはじめとするブドウ糖非発酵菌が産生し，多くの場合は，カルバペネム系薬を含む各種β-ラクタム系薬を分解する能力を有する．最近，腸内細菌科の菌種から新たなMBLとしてニューデリーメタロ-β-ラクタマーゼ1(NDM-1)が検出された．本稿では，MBL産生菌の性質および国内外での分離状況およびNDM-1産生菌の問題点について述べる．

MBLs (metallo-β-lactamases) produced by gram negative bacteria are enzymes belonging to Ambler's class B that can hydrolyze carbapenems and a wide variety of β-lactams, Among them, class B MBLs have been identified in Pseudomonas aeruginosa and in several non-glucose-fermenters.　In recent years a novel metallo-β-lactamase NDM-1 producing isolate of Enterobacteriaceae has been reported.　In this section, I review and discuss the prevalence and types of MBL producers in the domestic sphere and in foreign countries and the future problems involved in NDM-1-producing bacteria.
