Haemophilus influenzae is one of the leading causes of meningitis and acute epiglottitis in children. H. influenzae is also a common pathogen of respiratory infections. In terms of antibiotics resistance, the prevalence of β-lactamase non-producing ampicillin resistant H. influenzae has increased rapidly in recent years. Furthermore, biofilm producing H. influenzae and bronchial epithelium invasive H. influenzae are reported. These kinds of strains have induced recurrent and intractable respiratory infections. Administration of appropriate antibiotics and active immunization of H. influenzae type b vaccine are important for controlling the infection caused by antibiotic-resistant H. influenzae.
