Swallowing is well cooperated by dynamic and timely coordination of sequential three motions composed of laryngeal elevation, laryngeal closure and transportation of a bolus. Aspiration may be caused by those incoordination described above.

This paper presented a surgical technique of the anterior laryngeal elevation for treatment of aspiration. This is a very simple and reliable technique which consists of laryngeal traction anteriorly and fixation of the thyroid cartilage to the hyoid bone using a 0.15mm surgical stainless wire after cutting the superior horn bilaterally.

This technique was performed on two cases of aspiration : paralytic dysphagia after radical operation for acoustic tumor and presby-aspiration after hemiglossectomy with tracheotomy. Their results were excellent.

This combination therapy was indicated for rehabilitation of aspiration which was caused by incoordination of the sequential three laryngeal motions.
