RIST (serum IgE) was examined and RAST for quantitative estimation of IgE antibodies to 5 aeroallergens (Dermatophagoides, house dust, cedar, ragweed, Candida) in 100 patients with nasal allergy was studied. The results of RIST and RAST were compared with those of clinical studies of nasal allergy and the results demonstrated a decrease in serum IgE levels in accordance with aging. The patients with seasonal allergy showed the lower levels of serum IgE than those in nonseasonal ones. The frequency of positive RAST reactivity to Dermatophagoides and house dust was greater among younger people. The greatest frequency of positive RAST reactivity to cedar, ragweed and Candida was observed in those from 20 to 30 years of age. Good agreement was found between RAST and clinical diagnosis for cedar allergy.
