Radiographic anatomy of the lacrimal bone and its related structures was studied using dry skulls with lead labels. Clinical casss with known bone destructions were also included in the analysis.

So-called "lacrimale", the point where the posterior lacrimal crest meets with the frontolacrimal suture, was identified as a small thickened notch in the medial orbital walls in both Caldwell's and Waters' views. By Caldwell's view, the medial orbital wall makes two to three separate lines starting from the lacrimale. The most medial line corresponds to the posterior lacrimal crest and remaining lateral lines correspond to the posterior portion of the ethmoid orbital plate. By Waters' view, the medial orbital wall again makes two separate lines from the lacrimale. The medial line, in its intraorbital portion, corresponds to the posterior lacrimal crest and the lateral line to the anterior-superior portion of the ethmoid orbital plate. Anything superior to the lacrimale belongs to the frontal bone.
