  • Abstract

The difference between the results of the scratch and intradermal tests were studied on 221 patients by using 25 allergens commercialized by ToriiDrug Co.. Out of 221 patients 91 were given nasal provocation test with house dust by means of paper disc. The results were as follows :

 1. The ratio of coincidence of the results between scratch and intradermal tests was 47. 3% with house dust, 41.8% with the Japanese cedar pollen. It was less than 40% with other allergens.

 2. Discordance of the responses between the scratch and intradermal tests was often encountered. The house dust, Japanese cedar pollen, ragweed and molds were positive by intradermal test but negative by scratch test. The dander ofanimals, silk, cotton, husk of buckwheat and grasses proved to be positive by scratch test but negative by intradermal test.

 3. Scratch, intradermal and nasal provocation tests with house dust were positve in 29 cases (31.9%). Seventeen cases (18.7%) were positive to provocation test and scratch or intradermal test. There was a close relationship between the end-point estimated by intradermal serial dilution titration test and the responsiveness of patients to the provocation test ; the lower the endpoint, the higher was the response to the provocation test.
